Open Water Course

Learn SCUBA with SCUDA

Ready to take the next step with SCUDA?

The open water course includes a theory and practical component. The theory is done online at home in your own time. It takes about 4- 6 hours to complete and the team will send you the codes to access the course via the internet.

Once the theory is complete we find three days you’re available to complete the practical components and join us to dive with the fishes.

Day 1: Review theory and fit-out equipment in the morning followed by a pool session in the afternoon.
Day 2: We head to Bawley Point Gantry for two shore dives where we practice the skills learnt in the pool; and
Day 3: Two boat dives out of Ulladulla where we just breathe swim and look at the fishes.

There are basic skills that need to be demonstrated throughout the course in order to pass (clear the mask, remove and replace the regulator etc). 99.99% of people complete these skills over the three days of the practical sessions but if for some reason this is not possible they can come back as many times as needed to complete the course at no extra charge.

You do not have to see a doctor to learn to SCUBA dive! However, some people with selected medical conditions may need to be examined by a physician before completing their course. All participants are required to complete the attached medical assessment to keep them safe and ensure they don’t have any health conditions that might exclude them from diving. Please read the form carefully and contact us if the form recommends a medical evaluation by your GP.

Cost is $475 each including:
– Online theory component;
– Fully qualified and insured instruction until you pass;
– All equipment for the duration of the course;
– Air fills;
– Pool entry;
– Logbook;
– 2 shore Dives and 2 boat dives; and
– Lifetime license to dive to a max depth of 18m anywhere in the world.

Accommodation is also available at our dive lodge.

It’s important to note that not all SCUBA courses are created equal. Our aim at SCUDA is to make comfortable and confident divers, rather than the maximum amount of money possible. For this reason, we limit our numbers to four students per course and ensure at least two boat dives are included.
